Class of 2020 College Talent Abound on Field When Salpointe Faces Chandler in Open Division Semifinals Saturday


Going this deep into the newly-formed Open Division playoffs, featuring the top eight teams in Class 4A-6A in the state, matchups with plenty of college football prospects are included.

When No. 4 Salpointe (10-0) travels to No. 1 Chandler (11-0) in a semifinal game Saturday at 6 p.m. at Hamilton High School at Chandler, many prospects at all college levels will be on the field for both teams.

These are some of the players for each team who will be playing on Saturdays every week starting in 2020:

Chandler

OLB Malik Reed (6-2, 220, Sr.)

Committed to Wisconsin.

Leaning toward BYU. Two brothers played for the Cougars. He will go on a two-year church mission before starting college career.

Undecided with college choice. Holds offers from UNLV, San Diego State, Wyoming and New Mexico State among others.

Wyoming appears to be leading in his recruitment according to 247 Sports.

OG Nehemiah Magalei (6-0, 300, Sr.)

RB Bijan Robinson (6-0, 200, Sr.)

Committed to Texas. Robinson is the only running back in the state’s history to have three different seasons with at least 2,000 yards. He has 2,116 yards on 108 carries with 37 touchdowns this season. He holds the big-school state record with 6,917 yards rushing in his career on 519 attempts. His 102 rushing touchdowns are also a big-school state record as is his 113 touchdowns overall.

— Opposing offenses have tried to avoid his side of the field and he has 47 tackles, three for loss. He has three sacks. He has 16 catches for 429 yards with 10 touchdowns.

OG Bruno Fina (6-4, 240, Sr.)

Committed to UCLA. Son of legendary Arizona offensive tackle John Fina.

LB Trent Strong (6-1, 220, Sr.)

Scholarship offers from Division II Alderson Broaddus and Division III Carleton. Son of former all-conference catcher at Arizona, Steve Strong. Also contemplating being potential walk-on at SMU.

— The Arizona Republic rates him the No. 76 Class of 2020 prospect in the state.

— Team-leading 80 tackles with a sack.

TE/DE Connor Witthoft (6-3, 225, Sr.)

Scholarship offer from Georgetown. Also being recruited by Fresno State and Oregon State.

— The Arizona Republic rates him the No. 78 Class of 2020 prospect in the state.

— Has 15 catches for 242 yards with three touchdowns. He has 18 tackles, including one for loss. Also averaging 39.1 yards per punt.

S Coben Bourguet (6-1, 180, Sr.)

— The Arizona Republic rated him the No. 79 Class of 2020 prospect in the state.

— Tallied 26 tackles in five games after gaining eligibility following transfer from Marana. Has an interception and a fumble recovery.

— Younger brother of former Marana record-setting QB Trenton Bourguet (now at ASU as preferred walk-on) and older brother of Salpointe sophomore QB Treyson Bourguet.

CB Charlie Raetzman (5-10, 175, Sr.)

Recruited by Minot (N.D.) State, Whittier College and Presentation College. He took a recruiting trip to Minot last weekend.

— Has 27 tackles, team-leading six interceptions and 10 pass deflections. His interceptions ties for the lead amount of Southern Arizona players.

RB/WR Dae han Chang (5-9, 170, Sr.)

Received scholarship offer from Division II program Alderson Broaddus.

— 17 tackles

— Has 10 catches for 196 yards with 10 touchdowns.

LB Ray Figueroa (6-0, 215, Sr.)

Received scholarship offer from Division II program Alderson Broaddus.

— Second on team with 62 tackles, including three for loss.

OG Benjamin Cook (6-4, 240, Sr.)

Received scholarship offers from Alderson Broaddus and Concordia College.
