Sunnyside’s Audrey Jimenez Earns Mile High Challenge Middle School Championship


Andrey Jimenez of Gallego Fine Arts Intermediate in the Sunnyside School District emerged victorious in the 93-pound bracket of the 2020 Mile High Challenge Middle School Invitational at Prescott Valley today.

Jimenez, wrestling for the Sunnyside Wrestling Academy, competed against boys en route to the title.

An eighth grader, she beat Angel Serrano of Lauffer Middle School (also in the Sunnyside School District) by decision with a 4-0 score. The final placement:

  • 1st Place – Audrey Jimenez of Sunnyside Wrestling Academy
  • 2nd Place – Angel Serrano of Lauffer Middle School
  • 3rd Place – Gabriel Ramirez of Aces Wrestling Academy
  • 4th Place – Bergen Doolen of East Valley Wrestling Club

Jimenez, who trains at Sunnyside and the JET Sports Training facility, dominated the competition going 4-0 in the 93-pound bracket with two wins by fall and a 6-0 decision.

Opening round — Defeated Nathaniel Wine (Marana) by fall (1:39)
Quarterfinals — Defeated Chase Carter (Casteel) by decision (6-0)
Semifinals — Defeated Bergen Doolen (East Valley) by fall (:51)
Finals — Defeated Angel Serrano (Lauffer) by decision (4-0)
