The opening game between Desert Christian (11-9) and St. Augustine (18-2) made for a surprising finish. At the start, it looked like St. Augustine would run away with the game as they found themselves leading by 10-points early-on.
However, Desert Christian wouldn’t go away, keeping themselves within a five to eight-point range for most of the first half. At the half, they trailed 46-40, remaining within striking distance due to their ability to rebound and attack the St. Augustine zone.
The second half was a completely different game, instead of hanging around Desert Christian became the aggressive team pushing the ball up the floor to create easy buckets for their offense.
The game would end with Desert Christian completely flipping the script, and upsetting St. Augustine 60-52.
The player of the game had to go to Andrew Yarger, who finished with 22-points and 10-rebounds, helping Desert Christian improve to (12-9) on the season.
