Sahuaro Girls Basketball: Alyssa Brown WBCA Regional Player of the Week, Lucky Franke Close to 1,000 Points


Two bits of news regarding the Sahuaro girls basketball program indicate the talent level of a couple of players Steve Botkin is coaching.

Alyssa Brown, a junior point forward, was selected the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association/MaxPreps player of the week through last Sunday. Brown is averaging 30.2 points and 9.9 rebounds a game.

The WBCA High School Player of the Week presented by Wilson is awarded to a deserving student-athlete who demonstrated outstanding play throughout the week in her respective region of the country. Head coaches submit nominations each week and the WBCA selects the individual based on stats that were submitted.

Fellow junior teammate Alyssa “Lucky” Franke is only 12 points away from 1,000 points in her career. She is at 988 points through 79 games in three years. She has an opportunity to eclipse 1,000 points Tuesday night at home against Salpointe. The game starts at 7 p.m.

Franke is averaging 13.4 points a game and is leading the Cougars with 3.1 assists per game.
