Former Canyon del Oro softball standout Bailey Thompson (Seattle U) was named to the Preseason All-WAC Team along with former Salpointe standout Brianna Aguilar (GCU) and former Cienega standout Abby Doughty (Utah Valley)
Former Cienega standout Nick Gonzales (New Mexico State) was named to the WAC Preseason Team and he also earned Preseason Player of the Year honors. Former Canyon del Oro standout Tristan Peterson (New Mexico State) was named to the WAC Preseason Team as a first baseman.
Former Nogales standout Kevin Jimenez (New Mexico State) was named to the WAC Preseason Team as a utility player/DH.
Former Ironwood Ridge baseball standout Jake Engel was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers (NCBW) D-II Preseason First Team All-America Team from Dixie State as a DH. Engel was the only player from Arizona selected.
This list will be updated all year in an effort to recognize all former local prep stars who have gone on to achieve either academic and/or athletic awards at the next level. These are not high school awards but collegiate and professional recognitions. NOT CHAMPIONSHIPS. If you are aware of anything I have missed along the way, please let me know.
