Welcome to another episode of the All Arizona Podcast, in which Ryan Kelapire from AZ Desert Swarm and I will discuss key storylines/events surrounding Arizona athletics.
If you have attended an Arizona athletics event in the last two years, you’ve probably seen us running all around campus covering various sporting events. Here a quick history of how we’ve gotten into this career path and how long we’ve been involved in sports journalism.
I’ve lived in Tucson my whole life of 25 years. During that time, I’ve been around Arizona athletics for a long as I can remember. My family has had season tickets to Arizona basketball since McKale Center opened in 1973. I remember going to games at a young age, and visiting my grandfather at all kinds of events as he took tickets as an event staffer for 40 years.
Today, I’m a journalist who writes for All Sports Tucson cover Tucson sports from H.S. football to Arizona athletics. In my short time of covering athletics events, I’ve been fortunate by being able to see some of the best athletes in their sport competing on the biggest stage.
My favorite memory so far is covering the 2019 Arizona softball team as they went to Oklahoma City for the Women’s College World Series (WCWS), ending a nine-year drought.
As for Kelapire, he is not a Tucson native but has spent a great deal of time in the desert as he graduated from Arizona with a degree in journalism.
During his time in Tucson, he has been covering Arizona athletics since 2015, starting with the Daily Wildcat. Now, working for AZ Desert Swarm, he has become a Tucson stable when it comes to the sports scene covering everything under the sun on campus from Arizona soccer to Arizona football.
Here’s our latest episode talking about Arizona softball and the busy off-season it has been for the program thus far.
We hope you enjoyed this episode of All Arizona Podcast as much as we enjoyed putting it together. Please let us know what you think, or if you would like to see us talk about a particular topic, reach out to us, and we’ll put something together to pique your interest.
