Douglas Cancels Sports Effective Today Amid Rise in COVID-19 Cases

Douglas School District Superintendent Ana Samaniego issued a statement today mentioning that all sports activity is canceled until further notice effective immediately because of COVID-19.

“Due to rising number of COVID-19 cases locally, we are working with the (Cochise) County Health Department to assess the situation and will continue to take their guidance,” Samaniego mentioned.

Douglas’ football team started its season with a 63-3 loss at Walden Grove on Oct. 30. The Bulldogs, coached by former Arizona player Hunter Long, subsequently had a game canceled against Amphi at home last Friday.

They were slated to host Rio Rico today before traveling to Sahuarita on Nov. 20 and Empire on Dec. 4 before playing at Nogales on Dec. 10.
