Arizona Women’s Basketball: Pair of Wildcats Named to Naismith Trophy Watch List

All-American point guard Aari McDonald and Cate Reese collected a few more preseason honors today as they were named to the Preseason Naismith Trophy Watch List.

McDonald and Reese are two of the nine Pac-12 student-athletes to be named to the prestigious list, which is made up of 50 of the best players in the country. 

Last week, McDonald was named to the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award Watch List and became Arizona’s first preseason AP All-American. Last season, McDonald was the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award Winner, Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, WBCA All-American, AP second-team All-American, USBWA second-team All-American after leading the Pac-12 in scoring (20.6) and steals per game (2.3).

Reese was named to the Katrina McClain Award Watch List last week and enters the 2020-21 season coming off her sophomore year where she was All-Pac-12 and a two-time Pac-12 Player of the Week averaging 13.6 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. She started all 31 games of the season and was sixth in the Pac-12 in rebounds per game and field goal percentage (49%).

Reese recorded eight double-doubles on the season, which was also sixth in the Pac-12 and has 15 career double-doubles, which is the sixth-most in school history.
