Salpointe No. 6 in Open Division Playoffs, Play at No. 3 Saguaro in Quarterfinals

Salpointe Catholic, 6-0 under first-year coach Eric Rogers, is in the Open Division playoffs for the second consecutive year, and the Lancers are seeded No. 6 and headed to No. 3 Scottsdale Saguaro in a quarterfinal game Friday.

Saguaro (5-1) and Salpointe have a history in the state playoffs with the Sabercats beating the Lancers in the 4A state title game in 2018. That followed Saguaro coming out on top in the 2017 state championship and 2016 semifinal game.

Opponents have not scored more than 21 points in a game this season against the Lancers. In the last two wins over Mountain View and Desert Mountain, Salpointe won by combined scores by 66-9.

Senior linebacker Breyton Depoint leads the Lancers with 28 tackles.

In last night’s win over Desert Mountain, Bourguet completed 11 of 20 passes for 196 yards and no interceptions. T Lancers racked up 124 rushing yards for 320 total offensive yards.
