Arizona Wildcats Add Northwestern Transfer Gunner Maldonado

Arizona’s new coach Jedd Fisch is already busy on the recruiting trail, hitting the transfer portal hard by picking up former Northwestern and Chandler High School Wolves defensive back Gunner Maldonado for the 2021 recruiting class.

During Maldonado’s time at Northwestern this season, he didn’t see the field much as a true freshman on a solid Wildcats defense.

However, Maldonado was a three-star prospect according to 24/7 Sports coming out of high school and finished his senior season with 43 tackles and seven interceptions while helping his team win four straight state titles. The spectacular season led to him earning first-team All-State honors.

Maldonado had offers from Northwestern, Arizona, Arizona State, Indiana, and Iowa State before committing to Northwestern on June 13, 2019, going to Chicago to play for coach Pat Fitzgerald.

Now, Maldonado will be joining Arizona after committing to his new Wildcats team early Monday afternoon. He also received offers from BYU, Washington State and Tulane.
