Press conference: Arizona softball with Mike Candrea

Arizona softball is three days away from opening perhaps the most highly anticipated season, coming into the year ranked No. 2 in the nation by Softball America, which is the highest ranking the program has received since the 2011 season.

The Wildcats haven’t played a game since March 10 against Saint Joseph’s, an 11-1 win right before the season was canceled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Arizona will open up its season in the Texas Classic, where the team will play No. 6 Texas, Sam Houston State (twice), and finish the weekend on Saturday against No. 8 Alabama.

Here’s Arizona coach Mike Candrea talking about the upcoming season and discussing the excitement level around his team to get things going after a crazy offseason:

Here are “Super Seniors” Alyssa Palomino-Cardoza and Dejah Mulipola — afforded another season by the NCAA because of COVID-19 cutting short last season — talking about getting the opportunity to play this season after not knowing if they would ever wear the Arizona uniform again:
