Arizona takes first game over SE Louisiana behind Silseth

Arizona took game one of its four-game series against Southeastern Louisiana by the score of 7-4 on Thursday night at Hi Corbett Field.

It was pure dominance by Arizona right-hander Chase Silseth, who pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing five hits, four runs, two walks while posting 10 strikeouts.

Silseth is now 2-0 with an ERA of 2.92. At one point in the game, Silseth retired nine Lions in a row, striking out six.

He had a solid defense behind him as Arizona had its first errorless game of the season.

On Arizona’s offensive side, centerfielder Donta’ Williams, back at the leadoff spot, led the way going 4-for-5 with three singles and a double. Branden Boissiere went 2-for -2 with two singles and two walks.

Arizona (3-2) struck first with a three-run first inning on a fly ball that got lost in the lights. After that they would score twice in the second, once in the third and once in the fourth. 

With runs in each of the first three innings, the Wildcats extended their scoring streak to 11 innings.

Southeastern Louisiana (3-1) broke through in the sixth inning with four runs on two singles and a double.

After Silseth allowed those four runs, he was replaced by reliever Vince Vannelle, who pitched one inning, striking out one. Preston Price came in to the ninth to close out the game striking out three and earning his first save of the season.

The Wildcats will be back in action for the second game against Southeastern Louisiana on Friday at 6 p.m. at Hi Corbett Field.
