Sabino’s Wyble makes school-record 12 shots from 3-point range in win

Sabino senior guard Curtis Wyble came close to breaking the Southern Arizona record for most 3-pointers made in a game when he made 12 on Friday night in a 79-37 win over visiting Empire.

Wyble’s school-record total came two short of the Southern Arizona record of 14 made by Smiley Contreras of Pueblo against Buena on Nov. 29, 2000.

The state record is 15 made by Jake Taylor of Goodyear Trivium Prep last season against North Pointe Prep.

Wyble’s feat on Friday is more impressive given that he made 16 shots from 3-point range in 11 games entering Thursday. He made 12 of his 16 attempts against Empire.

He finished with 39 points against Empire topping his previous career high of 14 against Palo Verde on Feb. 5.
