Salpointe holds on at Tucson with playoffs in the balance

Teams competing in 4A, 5A and 6A soccer have to finish ranked in the top 16 to make the state playoffs this year but there is also another hurdle that almost kept one of the best teams in the state on the outside looking in. The three conferences set the standard for a minimum of seven games played to even be considered for the state playoffs, regardless of ranking.

Salpointe traveled to Tucson High Wednesday night ranked No. 3 in the 4A Conference with only six matches played and it was relief for the coaching staff to get that game played after a few weeks of phone calls to get teams added to the schedule after several opponents cancelled due to their own COVID restrictions….
