Arizona Wildcats through the eyes of Texas A&M

Wednesday night Arizona defeated BYU 52-46 to advance to the Sweet 16 for the first time in 23 years. Now, the Wildcats will play No. 2 seed Texas A&M Saturday night at 5 p.m. local time on ESPN2 for the right to go to the Elite 8.

Although this is the Wildcats’ first time since 1998 that they’ve been in the Sweet 16, Texas A&M is no stranger to being in this position. The Aggies have played in this round the last three NCAA tournaments.

It is clear that Arizona will go against an experienced team led by head coach Gary Blair, who has been with the program since 2003.

This season marks the 10-year anniversary of Blair’s national championship when the Aggies beat Norte Dame 76-70 to capture the program’s only title.

During the Aggies tournament run, guard Jordan Nixon has been lights-out from the field averaging 28 points in two games helping her team survive close calls against Troy and Iowa State.

Here are Blair and Nixon talking about the Aggies’ close tournament games and discussing what they’ve seen out of Arizona in its two tourney games:
