Silseth leads Arizona to win over Cal in series opener

Arizona took game one of the three-game series against California 5-1 last night at Hi Corbett Field behind a masterful performance by Chase Silseth.

Silseth through 6 1/3 innings allowed five hits and struck out six. The bullpen behind him, which included Preston Price and Vince Vannelle, closed the door allowing a combined two hits. They had four strikeouts.

Silseth improved to 5-0 — the first Arizona pitcher to begin 5-0 since Nathan Bannister in 2015. His ERA is 3.86.

Arizona’s hottest hitter, Branden Boissiere, went 3-for-5 with three singles and an RBI. Jacob Berry went 2-for-5 with two singles. They are a sure one-two punch in the lineup.

After scoring one in the third, Arizona (20-8, 6-4 Pac-12) would then score four in the fifth on four straight hits which included a crucial double by Ryan Holgate which scored Boissiere and Jacob Blas. Daniel Susac followed with a single driving in Holgate.
