Friday night, No. 10 Arizona opened its series with Utah with a dominating 12-1 win to improve to 28-8 on the season. The Wildcats took the momentum from the opening game and carried into Saturday’s doubleheader in the first game, running away 14-0 in a fifth-inning run-rule victory of the Utes, moving to 29-8 on the season and 8-5 in the Pac-12.

Arizona exploded at the plate scoring its 14 runs off 13 hits and five home runs from Dejah Mulipola, Sharlize Palacios, Malia Martinez, Carlie Scupin, and Alyssa Palomino-Cardoza to make quick work of the Utes.

It was a massive game at the plate for Mulipola and Scupin, who both went 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBIs.

Palacios has gone 4-for-6 with three home runs and six RBIs during the series, raising her season batting average to .385 with 13 home runs and 37 RBIs.

In the circle, Arizona went with pitcher Alyssa Denham who has been a consistent starter for the Wildcats this season. Denham pitched all five innings on 59 pitches and collected two strikeouts, lowering her ERA to 1.75 as she breezed through Utah’s lineup by getting a ton of weak contact.

Arizona will look for the doubleheader sweep of the Utes with Mariah Lopez in the circle, who is looking to bounce back after a rough start against ASU last time out.
