Former standout Tucson High lineman Julian Barcelo passes away

Tucson High School graduate (Class of 2017) Julian Barcelo, a standout lineman with the Badgers who went on to play at Mesa Community College and Snow (Utah) College, passed away Monday morning.

A Go Fund Me page has been set up by Liam Cueva, a friend of the family, to help Julian’s parents with funeral costs and other expenses. Cueva writes that Barcelo passed away in his sleep at 1 a.m. Monday morning.

Julian Barcelo transferred to Snow College in Utah in 2019 from Mesa Community College after a standout career as a lineman at Tucson High

“Julian Barcelo was a big brother to everyone,” Cueva writes. “A kind hearted soul and a person with huge ambitions. He was an athlete and a go getter only starting his life and doing things he never thought he could do. This is very devastating for his family and friends and people that knew him.”

Former Tucson High coach Justin Argraves, now the head coach at Cienega after coaching the Badgers from 2011 to 2020, mentioned in a tweet about Barcelo: “Devastated to hear the news of the passing of Julian Barcelo. Barce was a tremendous leader on and off the field who had a positive impact on everyone he knew. Truly one of a kind. Prayers go out to his family, friends, & teammates during this difficult time. You will be missed!”

Funeral arrangements are pending.
