RSL-AZ Southern Arizona 15U unbeaten heading into regional quarterfinals


RSL-AZ Southern Arizona 15U overpowered Billings (Mont.) United BU Pink 10-0 on Wednesday to advance to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Youth Soccer Far West Regional Championships at Boise, Idaho.

The team, coached by Paul DesRosier, placed first in Bracket B with a record of 3-0 (with two wins on the pitch and a forfeit victory). It will face the Rio Rapids (N.M.) Soccer Club in the quarterfinals on Friday at 2:45 p.m.

In the victory over Billings, Vivien Villarreal achieved a hat trick with three goals (she has netted four goals in the regionals) and two goals were each scored by Anjeli DesRosier, Hannah Ramos and Valeria Campos. Gabby Mendoza also scored.

The RSL-AZ Southern 13U team, also coached by Paul DesRosier, lost 2-1 on Wednesday to Impact United (Utah) to finish 1-1-1 in bracket play. Alexa Romero scored the the goal for DesRosier’s team.

The 13U team will play in the quarterfinals Friday against La Roca FC (Utah) at 2:45 p.m.

FC TUCSON 19U and 17U

FC Tucson 19U lost 1-0 to the Boise Timbers on Wednesday to finish 2-1 in bracket play.

The team, coached by Pima men’s coach David Cosgrove, advances to the quarterfinals.

The FC Tucson 17U team (0-2-1 at the regionals) concluded its games in Boise with a 1-1 draw with Utah Soccer Alliance USA Metro Premier on Wednesday.
