State Little League Playoffs: Junior and Senior Softball at Arthur Pack

ARIZONA STATE JUNIORS SOFTBALL AT ARTHUR PACK

District 10 champion Chino Valley defeated local District 5 champion Thornydale 12-1 in first round action at Arthur Pack Tuesday night. The team located just north of Prescott led 5-1 after two innings and the game went the distance with Chino Valley adding a run in the top of the fourth, two more in the sixth and four runs in the seventh for the win.

Chino Valley standout Breanne Petty had a home run, a triple and three RBI and Makenzie Sanders (1-0) picked up 17 strikeouts from the circle while only giving up two hits.

Alycia Gordin and Giselle Valdez collected the this for Thornydale and they both saw action in the circle with Valdez coming away with eight strikeouts in the loss. Isabel Brown walked and scored in the second inning.

In the late game, District 14 champion Gilbert beat District 12 champion San Xavier 12-0 in four innings. Emma Childress went 3-4 with a home run and six RBI to lead Gilbert at the plate. Madison Hunt (1-0) had a triple and two RBI while collecting nine strikeouts on her way to a perfect game. Isabel Valenzuela had eight strikeouts for San Xavier.

ARIZONA STATE SENIORS SOFTBALL AT ARTHUR PACK

District 1 Champion Winslow beat District 8 champion Sierra Vista Ponytail 20-7 Tuesday night to advance to the second round where the team will face District 12 champion Sunnyside on Wednesday night.

Sierra Vista took a 3-0 lead after two innings but Winslow answered with five in the third and three more in the fourth to take an 8-3 lead. Sierra Vista cut the lead down to 8-6 in the bottom half of the fourth but Winslow exploded for 12 runs in the fifth to pace the team to the 20-7 final in five innings.

Kyah Wilcox (1-0) had a home run and two RBI for Winslow and she also joined Jauslyn Nells in the circle. Ademina Martinez and Adacelli Salaiz-Noriega had doubles for Sierra Vista and Gracie Castro and Yanissa Long had RBIs. Castro and Katie Serna saw pitching action.
