Little League State Playoffs at Arthur Pack: Sierra Vista Seniors are still alive

ARIZONA STATE JUNIORS SOFTBALL AT ARTHUR PACK

San Xavier led Chino Valley 2-0 after three innings but the District 10 champion scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 3-2 lead. San Xavier came right back with three runs in the top of the fifth retake the lead but Chino Valley scored three more runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth for the 11-5 victory in the Elimination Bracket.

Chino Valley (2-1) will face Gilbert (2-0) in the championship game scheduled for Friday at 5 p.m. at Arthur Pack. Chino Valley will have to beat Gilbert twice on Friday under the double-elimination format.

Gilbert beat Chino Valley 6-4 Wednesday night to stay alive in the Winners Bracket.

Breanne Petty went 3 for 4 with two triples, a double and three RBI to lead Chino Valley. Makenzie Sanders had a triple and two RBI to go along with the 12 strikeouts she collected from the circle.

Isabel Valenzuela went 2-4 with a triple and two RBI for San Xavier. She also had seven strikeouts in the game.

ARIZONA STATE SENIORS SOFTBALL AT ARTHUR PACK

Sunnyside and Sierra Vista played to a 1-1 tie after three innings of play but Sierra Vista exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fourth to take control of the game. Adacelli Salaiz-Noriega fueled that run with a grand slam.

Sierra Vista led 10-1 heading into the seventh but Sunnyside mounted a comeback with four runs in that final inning but it wasn’t enough and Sierra Vista came away with the 10-5 victory in the Elimination Bracket.

Samantha Vanderlinden picked up the win from the circle for Sierra Vista. Mia Ballesteros, Desarey Martinez and Joanna Romero led Sunnyside with two hits each.

Sierra Vista (1-1) will face Winslow (2-0) in the championship game Friday at 5 p.m. with the “if game” scheduled for 7:30. Winslow beat Sierra Vista 20-7 Tuesday night and Sunnyside 29-15 Wednesday night to earn the night off on Thursday.

There will be no regional tournaments at the junior and senior level this year so this will be the last stop for all the teams at state.
