FOOTBALL: Flowing Wells and Amphitheater kickoff “Big School” competition on Thursday

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 2

5A Flowing Wells at 4A Amphitheater, 7 p.m.
Coaches for Charity Game with Amphitheater holding a 15-12 advantage dating back to 1962. Flowing Wells is 7-3 in last ten games but the Panthers have won the last two.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 3

5A Maricopa at 6A Tucson, 7 p.m.
The first meeting between the two programs mainly because the Rams were considered a small school between 1965 to 2008.

5A Cienega at 5A Sunrise Mountain, 7 p.m.
The first meeting for the two programs.

5A Desert View at 5A Sunnyside, 7 p.m.
Sunnyside holds a 13-4 lead on Desert View since 1985 but only 5-3 since the rivalry was continued in 2011.

5A Cholla at 5A Rincon/UHS, 7 p.m.
Rincon/University leads the series 18-3-1 dating back to 1972 but Cholla is 2-1 since 2015.

5A Buena at 5A Goldwater, 7 p.m.
First meeting. Goldwater opened in 1987.

5A Mountain View at 5A Marana, 7 p.m.
Mountain View holds a 13-2 record over Marana in the “Battle of the Boot.”

5A Ironwood at 5A Ironwood Ridge, 7 p.m.
Oddly, first meeting between the two schools. Ironwood is the 5A runner-up.

4A Canyon del Oro at 5A Salpointe, 7 p.m.
Salpointe holds a 27-10-1 lead over the Dorados dating back to 1967 including seven in a row since 2004.

4A Walden Grove vs. 3A Pusch Ridge at Mountain View, 7 p.m.
Pusch Ridge holds a slim 3-2 advantage over Walden Grove dating back to 2015. The game will be played at Mountain View with the Pusch Ridge field recovering from construction and sodding.

4A Empire at 3A Sahuarita (0-1), 7 p.m.
Sahuarita leads the series 3-2 starting in 2011 with Empire winning the last two meetings.

3A Sabino (1-0) at 4A Catalina Foothills, 7 p.m.
Sabino leads the series 10-3 dating back to 1995.

3A Coronado at 2A Catalina (0-1), 7 p.m.
This will be the first meeting between the two schools.

2A Santa Rita (0-1) at 2A Benson (0-1), 7 p.m.
Benson has outscored Santa Rita 97-0 in the only two meeting between the two schools in 2018 and 2019.

2A Bisbee (1-0) at 2A Miami (0-1), 7 p.m.
Bisbee holds a very slim 20-19-1 lead over Miami dating back to 1927. Bisbee won in 2018 and 2019 to take the lead.

2A Tanque Verde (1-0) at 2A Willcox (2-0), 7 p.m.
Willcox holds a 6-1 lead over Tanque Verde dating back to 2011.

2A Highland Prep (0-1) at 2A Santa Cruz (1-0), 7 p.m.
This is Highland Prep’s first year at 11-man football.

2A Chandler Prep (1-0) at 2A Tombstone (1-0), 7 p.m.
This is the first meeting between the two programs.

1A Duncan (1-1) at 1A San Manuel (1-0), 7 p.m.
San Manuel is 2-1 against Duncan dating back to 2001.

1A Bagdad (1-1) at 1A St. David (1-0), 7 p.m.
Bagdad is 3-0 against St. David dating back to 2015 with two of those victories coming in the state playoffs.

BYE: 5A Nogales, 4A Sahuaro, 4A Pueblo, 4A Douglas, 4A Rio Rico, 1A Baboquivari, 1A Valley Union
