Unbeaten Desert View ranked No. 6 in Open Division power ratings

Undefeated Desert View, which hosts Salpointe Catholic in the 5A Southern opener for both teams, is the No. 6-rated team in the first Open Division power ratings released by the AIA on Tuesday morning.

Desert View, 5-0 for only the second time in program history, the first since 2016, is rated behind Chandler (6-0), Hamilton (6-0), Queen Creek (5-0), Cactus (6-0) and Basha (6-0).

The Open Division playoffs consist of the eight top rated teams in Class 4A to 6A.

The Jaguars are coached by former Arizona linebacker/tight end Robert Bonillas, who is in his 10th season with the Jaguars.

Desert View features an aggressive defense led by defensive end Alvaro Chaparro, one of the largest offensive lines in the state, potent running backs Serge Gboweiah and Carlos Alvarez and productive quarterback Oscar Barraza.
