SAM’S CORNER: Writing, cleaning & Christmas shopping without game this week

Hello Wildcat fans!

Feels good to be back in Tucson after a long week in the Virgin Islands.

Since our game got cancelled this week against UC Riverside, we got a nice break to focus on what we need to get better as a team. This whole week was dedicated to getting better as a team and staying in game shape. It is nice to have this break especially with finals coming up. We typically never get time to breathe during the season cause we are also getting ready for the next game it seems like. The timing couldn’t have been better, next week is finals so we can use this time to study and get ahead if we can. For me, you don’t really have exams in my degree. Instead, it is a bunch of papers. During this week I have been working on finishing those and trying to get everything done so I can take a longer break off from class and end a week earlier then when it is scheduled for.

Another thing I did since I had so much time on my hand was do some deep cleaning. I do not love cleaning but I love the feeling after I clean. My mom has always been a fan of picking one day to do all the cleaning and going through old clothes that we don’t wear. When I was younger, it was a big deal because there were four of us kids and our mom gave us jobs of everything we had to clean in the house. Once we finished with the house, we had to do our own rooms and give away things that we didn’t want. When I was a kid I hated it, and it always took forever. Now that I am older, I don’t mind it at all. When I finish, I feel so relaxed and good and then I can relax the rest of the day. Now that I have my puppy Proxy, I bought a carpet cleaner to do some real deep cleaning and it is one of my best purchases in college.

One thing I got done which was super beneficial was getting my Christmas shopping done. I went a little too crazy on Cyber Monday and bought all my gifts so I am done and ready for Christmas. Since there are six people in my family, it would be too much to buy something for everyone, so we do secret Santa. I can’t tell you all who I have because my whole family reads these columns but I will share once Christmas is over. I can tell you, however, that I got Proxy a bone that is almost as big as her. I am assuming she will love it and might sniff it out while it’s under the tree!
