SAM’S CORNER: Visit by dad, boyfriend make sweep of Oregon schools extra special

Hey Wildcat fans!

McKale was the place to be last weekend! Between our men’s team and us, we were able to protect our house and go 4-0 during weekend. All of Tucson showed up for the games and it was an incredible atmosphere. We had a whiteout against Oregon and were able to defeat the Ducks at home. The fans helped keep the energy up in the game and made it a hard environment for the opposing team to play in. Then against Oregon State it was another great game filled with fans. Sweeping the Oregon schools is always a hard task, so I was very proud of my teammates.

Lucas came back and visited me for the weekend from San Diego. His training has been going well and he is right by the beach so I cannot wait to visit him after the season. My dad also came and visited for the Oregon games. He brought two of his high school teammates with him all the way from Kansas City to come watch my games as well. They are good family friends and I hadn’t seen them in more than five years so it was nice to have everyone in Tucson for the games.

My dad and Lucas were both rocking the ‘Sam Thomas’ merch at the game. That was the first game where I was able to see people wearing my merch. It was surreal to see so many people wearing my clothes. I had never imagined that many people would be all in the same area wearing my clothes.

Another exciting thing that happened was entering the top 10 scoring in program history. I had been told that I only needed nine points against Oregon State in order to make it into the top 10. I was hoping to get it at home in front of all our fans and my loved ones. It has been such a crazy journey since my freshman year. The ‘Made For It’ documentary that came out about the program really brought back so many memories. I know in a couple years I will be able to look back and really get to appreciate how far the program has come. This school has done so much for me and the fans mean the world to me. I am going to be enjoying these last couple months of my career and playing my heart out!
