Brink was the winning pitcher in all three victories for Embry-Riddle last week, and the freshman was the key factor in holding Simpson off in the final game on Sunday according to the conference. Brink struck out 38 batters (12.09 per seven) and allowed just one earned run (0.32). She threw two complete games, including a 10-inning 1-0 win shut over SU.

Former Walden Grove standouts Conner and Chase Verdugo were named to the Cal Pac Winter All-Academic Team playing for Embry-Riddle. Conner, a junior, is studying Global Business Management and Chase, a sophomore, is studying Applied Biology.

Former Pueblo standout Sierra Gaskill was named Cal Pac Player of the Week Nominee for Benedictine-Mesa on Feb. 28.

This list will be updated all year in an effort to recognize all former local prep stars who have gone on to achieve either academic and/or athletic awards at the next level. These are not high school awards but collegiate and professional recognitions. NOT CHAMPIONSHIPS. If you are aware of anything I have missed along the way, please let me know. amoralesmytucson@yahoo.com
