Former Salpointe and Arizona golfer Trevor Werbylo wins the Lake Charles Championship

Former Salpointe and University of Arizona golfer Trevor Werbylo won the inaugural Lake Charles Championship held in Louisiana with the final round played on Sunday. According to reports, Werbylo began Sunday at 10-under par, five strokes behind Seonghyeon Kim but Werbylo shot an 8-under 63 to come in at 18 under par for the week.

Kim forced a playoff with Werbylo but the former Salpointe standout birdied the third hole (304-yard par-4) of the playoff for the win. Werbylo moved to No. 3 on the Korn Ferry Tour Regular Season Points List some 37 points behind Brandon Matthews and 55 points behind Carl Yuan. The Korn Ferry Tour season continues Thursday, March 31 with the first round of the Club Car Championship at The Landings Club in Savannah, Georgia.

Werbylo earned $135,000 with the victory and his caddie was his father, local coaching legend Roger Werbylo.
