CARLIE’S SCOOP: Birthday celebration, winning Pac-12 series & fun at the Catsys

Hello Wildcat fans,

This week has been eventful with lots of reasons for celebration. My birthday was this past week and I was glad to be able to celebrate it with my teammates, coaches and family. My teammates surprised me by decorating my locker and giving me birthday presents before practice. We also went to Coach Candrea’s house after practice for team dinner, where he cooked us pasta and meatballs. It is always nice to see Coach and Tina and we really appreciate them opening their home to us and hosting us for dinner. After dinner, I went home and my family was there to surprise me with a birthday cake. I was happy to be able to spend time with my family on my birthday, despite such a busy day.

Last weekend we also had our first Pac-12 series win against Oregon. It was such a fun series and we appreciate all the fans for coming out and showing support. It was a team effort and I am proud of all of our players for stepping up and getting a big win when we needed it. We need to keep the momentum going coming into this weekend’s series against Utah. Some of my family was in town last weekend for Easter and they were able to make it out to the last game of the Oregon series. I’m glad they could make it out because I don’t get to see them often and they don’t get to come to many of my games. I also got to spend more time with them, as well as other family, on Easter.

The team was able to celebrate Easter with Abi. We had an Easter egg hunt on the field and hung out with her afterwards. She had a lot of fun and we were glad to be a part of her Easter. Monday night, Arizona hosted the Catsys, an award show made to recognize Arizona’s athletes and their achievements. We had been looking forward to this event because, due to covid, it had been canceled for the last two years. For most of us, it was our first Catsys. We were excited for the experience and to get dressed up. Izzy, Allie, and Coach Candrea spoke at the event. Izzy and Coach were a part of a Q&A and Allie delivered an award.

The softball team was well represented at the ceremony, winning third place in team community service, multiple academic honors, Paige being nominated for female freshman player of the year, and me winning female sophomore player of the year. I am honored to have received this award and congratulate all of the other nominees. This weekend we face Utah in Salt Lake City in a three-game series. The games will be streamed on Pac-12. Tune in and show support while we’re on the road.
