Kelvin Eafon protégé Mat’tanaya Vital signs with Pima College

Amphi Class of 2022 prospect Mat’tanaya Vital has signed to continue her education and basketball career at Pima Community College.

Vital’s skills prospered from the early stage of her development while being trained by former Arizona football and basketball player Kelvin Eafon, now an analyst of Wildcat basketball games at KCUB 1290-AM.

She also played for Eafon’s club basketball team Lady Desert Storm since she was in the seventh grade. He has trained her for six years and coached her for five.

Vital, a 5-foot-6 guard, tallied 1,484 career points at Amphi.

In her senior season with the Panthers, she averaged 22.3 points, 6.2 assists, 5.2 steals and 4.8 rebounds a game while leading her team to a 20-9 record.

Vital joins Todd Holthaus’ program at Pima, which annually thrives with local talent a significant part of the team.

“I’m very proud of her,” Eafon posted on social media. “She is loyal, tough and a tremendous basketball player. I truly wouldn’t be surprised if she led Pima back to the nationals and became an All-American.”

Holthaus on Vital’s signing: “We take a lot of pride in keeping the best local players close to home. Mat’tanaya is a great scorer with a tremendous understanding of the game. She’s tough and plays with an edge. We’re very excited to get to work with her and add her to the exciting roster we’ve got for next year.”
