Carlos Astiazaran wins Tucson City Jr Championship

Salpointe senior to be Carlos Astiazaran won the Boys Championship of the Junior Golf Association of Arizona (JGAA) Tucson City Jr. Championship held Wednesday and Thursday at the Randolph North Golf Course. Astiazaran shot a 2-under-par 142 (69-73) to defeat Liberty senior Tyler Linam (72-72) and Liberty sophomore Nash Arthurs (68-76) by two strokes.

The championships were sponsored by the Tucson Conquistadores, Tucson City Golf and the Ricki Rarick Junior Golf Program.

On the girl’s side, Ironwood Ridge senior Zoe Newell shot 2-under on the final day on the Dell Urich Golf Course to draw close to eventual champion Jayden Jevnick. The Xavier junior shot an even 140 (71-69) to hold off Newell (74-68). Boulder Creek senior Kate Connolly (69-73) also tied for second place.

Kallum de Guia (37-37: 74) of Tucson won the Boys 11-12 Division by one stroke over fellow Tucsonan John Matheny III (35-30: 75) and Ariela Renee Trejo (37-41:78) of Tucson won the Girls 11-12 Division by 14 strokes. This age group played the back nine of Dell Urich.
