Colton Kintner and Ben Cleveland set the table for Aundre Hill three times Friday night with each getting on base in front of him in the lineup and Hill responded with five RBIs in a 10-3 win by the Thornydale Little League 50/70 All-Stars over Tanque Verde in the opening round of the District 5 tournament.

Kintner went 4 for 4 with four runs and a triple and two RBIs and Cleveland was also 4 for 4 with three runs, a double and three RBIs.

Hill was 3 for 4 with a double and his five RBIs in the win that advances Thornydale to the winner’s bracket semifinal. Thornydale plays Western on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Arthur Pack.

The loser will play Tanque Verde in an elimination-bracket final Monday at 6:30 p.m.. The championship round is set to start Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

The duo of Kintner and Cleveland also pitched Thornydale to victory, limiting Tanque Verde to six hits with eight strikeouts and two walks in the seven-inning game.

“I think I was more nervous than the kids,” Thornydale manager Jared Medford said. “I think they settled right in. You can see there were some nerves at the beginning but they settled right in and got into it.

“Ben was our starter and then Colton came in and did most of the work for us, so Colton Kintner was probably our best pitcher of the day.”

Kintner singled in the first inning after Jace Medford reached on a single. Cleveland followed with a two-run double to put Thornydale ahead 2-1 (Tanque Verde rallied in the top of the first behind an RBI single by Jareth Nyllind).

Thornydale increased its lead to 4-1 in the third inning when Hill’s single plated Kintner and Cleveland, both of whom previously singled.

The lead increased to 8-2 in the fourth inning when Hill’s single scored Kintner and Cleveland (both previously hit singles to help fuel the five-run rally).

Thornydale’s last two runs in sixth inning came across after Kintner tripled and scored on a single by Cleveland, who was brought home on a double by Hill.

“This is my first year with All-Stars so it’s something special to come out here with my team and do something this big,” Hill said. “This one of the first times being out here on the big field in front of all these people, so I’m super proud about it.”

Alex Page led Tanque Verde at the plate going 2 for 3 with two runs and a double.
