Sun Belt College League: Rebels beat Gauchos in battle for first place

Recaps from Wednesday’s games:

VAIL REBELS 8, OLD TUCSON GAUCHOS 2

In a battle for first place in the Sun Belt College League, the defending champion Vail Rebels came away with the win over the Old Tucson Gauchos.

Leading hitters for the Rebels with three hits each were Nick Arias (Tucson High), Angel Ochoa (SE Oklahoma State) and Diego Bejarano (Park University).

Marcus Delgado (CDO) continued his steady pitching this summer pitched seven innings and was the winning pitcher.  Delgado gave up four hits and struck out five.

Chris Olea (Eastern Arizona) and Andres Gonzalez (South Mountain CC) drove in the two runs for the Gauchos.

NORTHWEST NIGHTHAWKS 2, OLD PUEBLO KINGS 1

Alex Londono (Arizona Christian) drove home two runs in the top of the seventh and that is all the Nighthawks needed behind strong pitching from Cole Anderson (Ironwood Ridge).

Anderson, the winning pitcher, went six innings and struck out seven.

Regan Reynolds (Gateway CC) pitched three innings with four strikeouts and earned the save.

Emilio Barreras-Rojo (Vista Grande) had two hits including a double, Carlos Molina (Paradise Valley CC) also had two hits for the Kings, and Wyatt Wilharm (Benson) drove in the only Kings run.

CATALINA AZTECS 11, SPEEDWAY GAMBLERS 5

Ruben Castro (Tucson) and Adrian Alcantar (Lake Region State) each had two hits and drove in two runs for the Aztecs.

Ricky Santiago-Gonzalez (Salpointe) was the winning pitcher, pitching six innings, allowing three hits and striking out five.

Isaac Silva (Eastern Arizona), who has dominated the past few weeks, was the losing pitcher. He went 5 2/3 innings, allowing six hits with eight strikeouts.
