American Legion: Tucson High Post 7 wins first semifinal game

Tucson Firebirds Post 7 of Tucson High defeated Post 73 Crush of Sunnyside 6-4 Tuesday night to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three semifinal series held at Vista Grande High School. Nano Contreras picked up the victory from the mound.

The Lofton Panthers of Surprise beat the Cactus Cats of Desert View 10-8 in the first game of the other semifinal.

The second game of both semifinals will take place tonight at Vista Grande with the Panthers/Cactus Cats game starting at 5 p.m. followed by the next game. The third game, if needed, will take place Thursday night.

The American Legion West Regional will be held in Fairfield, California from August 3-7 and the American Legion World Series is scheduled for Shelby, North Carolina from August 11-16.
