American Legion: Tucson takes 1-0 lead in best-of-3 championship series

2022 ARIZONA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES

Tucson Firebirds Post 7 of Tucson High beat Cactus Cats of Desert View 7-3 Tuesday night at Vista Grande High School to go up 1-0 in the best-of-three series to decide the Arizona State American Legion state championship.

Nano Contreras got the win and Gennaro Brito picked up the save. Issac Ramirez and Maddox Jones hit home runs.

The second game of the series is set for Wednesday at 5 p.m. with the third game, if needed, following 30 minutes after.

The state champion will advance to the American Legion West Regional to be held in Fairfield, California from August 3-7 and the American Legion World Series is scheduled for Shelby, North Carolina from August 11-16.

Andy was named an Honorary Flowing Wells Caballero in 2019, became a member of the Sunnyside Los Mezquites Cross Country Hall of Fame in 2021 and he was a member of the Amphi COVID-19 Blue Ribbon Committee.
