Little League All-Stars: Willcox wins 8-10 State Softball Championship

(Willcox 8-10 Softball)

Hattie Macumber is a name for the future but what she is doing right now already merits star status.

Macumber struck out 15, walked four and scattered three hits in six innings to lead Willcox 8-10 All-Stars to the state softball championship with a 4-2 win Saturday night over Cave Creek Cactus Foothills.

Macumber’s pitching performances in the state tournament at Sierra Vista:

Macumber had a total of 71 strikeouts and 16 walks in 26 innings with seven hits and two earned runs allowed.

Her batting with a triple and home run and three RBIs was also essential in the win over Cactus Foothills for the title.

Cactus Foothills took a 1-0 lead in the second inning but Willcox rallied for a run in the third after she tripled with one out. She later scored on a fielder’s choice.

Willcox’s three runs on her inside-the-park home run in the fifth increased the lead to 4-1. The home run plated Jayleen Aguirre (who doubled) and Allyson (walked to lead off the inning).

Cactus Foothills scored a run in the bottom of the sixth but didn’t mount a rally because Macumber retired three of the last four batters she faced.
