We started the Little League All-Star season with over 150 teams in the various divisions for baseball and softball and that number was whittled down to 26 district champions (District 5, District 8 and District 12) and then seven state champions. Come Wednesday morning, the Sunnyside 50/70 team will be the last from Southern Arizona still competing in a West Region tournament.

Sunnyside (4-1) will play Southern California (4-1) in a semifinal game set for 5 p.m. in Nogales. The winner advances to the championship game slated for Thursday. There will also be a third place game so the Arizona state champion is guaranteed an extra game. Southern California beat Sunnyside 10-9 during pool play on Sunday.

Nogales fell to Southern California 13-3 to set up the semifinal with Sunnyside.

Nogales took third place at the Senior League West Regional taking place in Oakland after beating Southern California 2-0 in the afternoon on Tuesday before dropping a 4-2 decision to Hawaii a few hours later in the semifinal round. The Nogales Seniors finished 3-2.

Thornydale, the junior softball state champion, beat Oregon 13-8 Tuesday night to claim the final of the consolation bracket. Thornydale finished 2-2 at the Arthur Pack Complex with a sixth place finish.

Marana, the District 5 champion, lost to Alaska 9-2 Tuesday morning. The loss gave Marana a 2-2 record at the West Regional and a fourth place finish. Cadence Beck went 1 for 3 with an RBI and Bella Sayre went 1 for 2. Malia Mills, Aubrianna Gray, Beck and Adalaide Bradshaw saw pitching action for Marana.

In the Thornydale game, Rhiannon Plunkett went 2 for 4 with a home run and 3 RBI, Sadie Brown went 2 for 5 with a triple and an RBI, Lindsey Sanchez went 3 for 5 with 3 RBI, Kaylee Moussette went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI, and Rylee Harper and Elizabeth Lujan had 2 hits each.
