The state playoffs from 2A through 6A begin in earnest next week (and the 1A bracket is well underway).
The Selection Saturday show produced by AZPREPS365 this morning revealed the following brackets, except for the Open Division, which began on Tuesday.
A total 26 teams (12 girls and 14 boys) from Southern Arizona are in contention for state championships in 1A through the Open Division.
Three Southern Arizona boys teams in the 1A are playing Saturday in the quarterfinals — No. 12 The Gregory School is at No. 4 El Capitan Academy at 5 p.m., No. 3 Baboquivari hosts No. 6 Hayden at 7 p.m. and No. 2 St. David hosts No. 7 Fort Thomas at 6 p.m.
In the 1A girls state playoffs, No. 3 St. David has reached the semifinals that will be played Friday at the Findlay Toyota Center in Prescott Valley. The Tigers will play No. 2 Joseph City. Tipoff time has yet to be announced.
GIRLS OPEN DIVISION
Top 32 teams in 4A-6A are competing in the first Open Division. Salpointe won its first and second round games against No. 25 Pueblo and No. 9 Hamilton, respectively, to reach the quarterfinals.
