Hi Wildcat Fans!

This week I want to write about Allie Skaggs. Now, we all know that name for the incredible athlete she is, the home runs she has hit, and the mark she has left on this program so far. However, I want to talk about my best friend, Skaggs, what she means to me, and also some fun facts about her.

Skaggs has been an integral part of my career and life here at Arizona. She has such a kind and genuine heart. I can say that she is one of the only people I can hang out with every single day and not get sick or annoyed of her. I mean, we do hang out every single day, more so on our own time than at practice or games. Skaggs is my best friend and I’m so thankful for her.

I asked Skaggs some different questions so you all could get to know her better. We all know she’s great, here are some things you might not have known about her. I asked her what skills she wants to master, and she said cooking. “I don’t know how to cook many things and think it would be great to be able to just whip up an awesome meal for myself and for others,” she said. Her most useless talent is being able to wiggle her ears. I asked what celebrity she would rate as a perfect 10 and she couldn’t limit it to just one, so her answer was Matthew McConaughey, Theo James, and Tom Holland. We eat breakfast together a lot and every time we do this is her order: “Huge pancake girl. I would say a few scrambled eggs, pancakes, and apple juice. That would set me up for a great day.” Skaggs’ Starbucks order is a Venti Strawberry Acai with Lemonade. The most recent book she has read is The Boy, The Mole, The Fox, and The Horse.

Being an athlete is tough and I asked her to list everything that hurts right now. “My brain, knees, back, feet, shins, right hand, neck, hips. Basically, everything. College athletics are no joke,” she said.

The Skaggs family is well respected and loved by everyone who meets them. I asked her why she was proud of them, she said, “I am very proud of how my family treats other people. When you think of the Skaggs family, it is hard to see us in a bad light. We are here to help others and to treat them with kindness, and that is a standard we hold ourselves to.” A very important part of her family is her dog, Miles. “Miles is my 3-year-old puppy. When COVID first hit, I decided to make a PowerPoint for my parents asking about a dog. I said it would help us with our mental health. A few weeks after my presentation, I was home with a new puppy! He has such a big personality and fits in great with the Skaggs family. I love that little guy.”

I’ll leave you with this quote from Skaggs:

“Take care of yourself. If you need help, it’s okay to ask for it. You have people in your corner, and if you need someone to listen, I can and others can too.” ❤
