Sunnyside’s Anthony Galvez commits to Simpson

Sunnyside receiver Anthony Galvez is the 31st local Class of 2021 prospect to make a commitment to a college, pledging Wednesday to Simpson College, an NCAA Division III program in Indianola, Iowa.

Galvez joins Walden Grove wide receiver Alex Culbertson and running back Stephen Brower Jr. in making a commitment to Simpson.

The Storm have 13 players from Arizona on their current roster including cousins Cameron Drescher, a safety, and tight end Ryan Drescher of Ironwood Ridge and tight end Tristan Bushey of Cienega. The Dreschers and Bushey are freshmen.

“I decided to go with Simpson because I have built a relationship with the coaching staff there,” said Galvez, who had 22 catches for 600 yards in his 14-game varsity career at Sunnyside. ” They were the first school to show any real interest and the first school to offer me. When I took my visit up there in January, the campus just felt like home, the coaches took me and my family to dinner, and we kind of just knew that Simpson would be a perfect fit.”

Galvez also mentioned another factor in his commitment was Brower, a longtime friend committed on Feb. 5. Galvez, Brower and Culbertson plan to start rooming together at Simpson in August..

Galvez will study education at Simpson with the plan to become an educator.
