Arizona Little League baseball state tournament results and schedules


Juniors (12-14)

Nogales and Western each won Monday to advance in the winner’s bracket of the Juniors state tournament at Nogales, and the Southern Arizona teams will face each other Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Nogales, District 8 champions, defeated Chandler American 4-3, and Western, District 5 champs, beat Mesa Four Peaks 4-0.

San Xavier, the District 12 champ, is scheduled to play Snowflake Silver Creek on Tuesday at 1 p.m. after advancing by forfeit over the District 9 representative that did not make it to Nogales.

Nogales took a 4-0 lead after three innings and held on for its win over Chandler American.

Tenochtli Nepan Ollin went 3 for 3 with three runs and one RBI and Armando Gutierrez allowed only three hits in a complete-game performance in Western’s win over Four Peaks.

Gutierrez, who also went 1 for 3 with an RBI, struck out eight batters and walked two.

Yandel Rios-Arvayo had two hits and Joseph Danny Ferrel produced an RBI for Western.

Rincon’s successful summer, including a District 12 championship, came to a close Monday with a 5-1 loss to Gilbert American in an elimination-bracket game in the 8-9-10 Little League state tournament at Field of Dreams.

Rincon’s Mikey Ortiz continued to hit the ball well in the tournament, going 2 for 3 with an RBI. He also pitched a scoreless 2 2/3 innings of relief allowing one hit and two walks with a strikeout.

Brendan Byars also went 2 for 3 for Rincon.

Majors (10-12)

Tough night for Oro Valley and Sunnyside on Monday with both teams eliminated by Chandler National North from the Majors state tournament at Tempe.

Oro Valley resumed its game with Chandler National North down 12-3 in the second inning after rain postponed the game on Thursday and then the next three days.

After play resumed, Oro Valley rallied for five runs in the top of the sixth but lost 13-11.

Daniel Armenta went 3 for 4 with two runs and three RBIs, including a home run. Fabian Acuña also homered and went 2 for 3 with two runs and three RBIs.

Sito Graves and Braden Arellano each added two hits.

Sunnyside then lost 10-8 to Chandler National North in the elimination-bracket final.

Six different players had one hit for Sunnyside — Ezequiel Lorta, Josue Espinoza, Jesus Valenzuela, Carlos Rodriguez, Luis Zazueta and Eli Urias. Urias led the team with two RBIs.
