Jan. 31 – Feb. 4

Pusch Ridge girls — Goalkeeper Jaylee Graham and midfielder Olivia Maxfield led their team in a 1-0 win over Odyssey Institute. Graham came up with five saves to keep her team tied 0-0 going into the 76th minute. Maxfield’s late goal put the Lions into the first round of the state tournament where they will face No. 1 Benjamin Franklin on Wednesday.

Sunnyside boys — A 35-yard kick from Sebastian Barrios found the upper right-hand corner of the net to give the Blue Devils a 1-0 lead in their 2-0 win over Desert View. Sunnyside’s second goal came on a penalty kick from former Desert View player Robert Arballo at the 46-minute mark after the referee deemed that he was pushed to the ground in a battle for the ball in the penalty box.

Jan. 24-29

Catalina Foothills girls — Emmy Barker had two goals to lead the Falcons to a 3-1 win over host Mountain View.

Cienega girls — Kenna Kiefer had a hat trick at home in a 9-0 win over Nogales.

Desert View boys — Jose Bracamonte, a freshman, led the Jaguars in scoring during the week with three goals in two games.

Jan. 17-22

Pusch Ridge girls — Kaylee Edmunds had four goals in the Lions’ 7-0 win over Empire.

Tucson High boys — Badger junior Luke Skattie scored on a free kick to give Tucson the early lead against Salpointe in a 2-1 win. Junior striker Eli Martinez put the Badgers up 2-0 at the half.

Salpointe boys — Senior Sergio Ruiz de Chavez put the Lancers on the board against Tucson in a 2-1 loss on a penalty kick in the final minute of play.

Jan. 10-15

Sahuaro girls — MacKenzie Szatkowski had four goals and an assist in the Cougars’ 8-0 win over Nogales.

Pusch Ridge girls — Olivia Maxfield, Gaby Olive, Kaylee Edmunds and Jackie Trevizo each had a goal in the Lions’ 4-0 win against Mica Mountain.

Salpointe girls — senior Madison Smith came up with nine saves, including two in overtime in a 0-0 tie with Walden Grove.

Walden Grove girls — Sophomore Megan Blatnik collected seven saves in the 0-0 tie with Salpointe.

Pusch Ridge boys — Evan Garelick scored the game-winning goal with under 5 minutes remaining in double overtime to secure the Lions’ 1-0 win in an important regional game with Tanque Verde. Braedon Neale scored two goals and helped distribute and control the midfield with aggressive play against Empire, helping to lead his team to a 4-0 win. 

Sunnyside boys — Joe Duran and Jonny Verdugo each scored twice in the Blue Devils’ 5-0 win over Ironwood Ridge.

Desert View boys — Angel Resendiz Mata, a junior center-back, was the strong reason behind the Jaguars winning their matches to improve to 6-1.
