Arizona Wildcats commit Braxton Burmeister set the San Diego CIF record for passing touchdowns Friday night.
Burmeister, who entered the game with 95 career touchdown passes, needed two to break the record of Grossmont’s Anthony Lawrence (2011 to 2013). Burmeister threw for four TDs against Marantha Christian on Friday night.
Burmeister, from La Jolla Country Day, already this season has topped the San Diego Section record for total offense, surpassing the 10,230 yards put up by Dillon Baxter, who later attended USC. Burmeister is more than 1,000 yards past the old record.
The one record I really relish is the total offense record,” Burmeister told the San Diego Union-Tribune. “My dad and I thought going into high school that was the one record worth shooting for.
“That record is a testament to my teammates because I couldn’t have gotten it without them.”
(Be sure to scroll down for a recent video interview and breakdown of his game. He says of Arizona: “The coaching staff has been awesome to me” and the campus “is beautiful.”)
Burmeister entered Friday night with 143 career touchdowns, including 48 by rushing. He is a four-star recruit rated as the 10th-best dual-threat quarterback in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
