Playoff Football Saturday Star of the Night: Pusch Ridge’s Garcia

PUSCH RIDGE RB RYAN GARCIA

Garcia turned it on for Pusch Ridge in the first playoff game, rushing for four touchdowns after accumulating seven in the regular season. He led the top-seeded Lions to a 67-0 win over No. 16 Wickenburg in the first-round game at Pusch Ridge Saturday night.

Garcia rushed for 71 yards in the game. He was one of five Pusch Ridge rushers who had more than 350 yards on the ground in the regular season.

His teammate Tamerat McLeod had 65 yards rushing with two touchdowns and 64 yards receiving.

Pusch Ridge (11-0) will host No. 8 Northwest Christian on Friday in a Class 3A quarterfinal game. Northwest Christian defeated No. 9 Show Low 31-14.

— Garcia mounted the lead with a his fourth TD run, this one from 29 yards.
— McLeod scored on an 18-yard carry in the fourth quarter.
— Max Atkinson had a 70-yard interception return for a TD.
— Pusch Ridge advances to face the Northwest Christian-Show Low winner next week.

— Sabino wins 49-20 FINAL
— Sabino will play at No. 4 Benjamin Franklin of Queen Creek next Friday in a quarterfinal game.
— Sabino QB Alex Bell threw a TD and ran for another (25 yards) for the Sabercats’ first two scores.
— Bell threw a 5-yard TD pass to Larry Gerald at the end of the first half to give Sabino a 21-3 lead.
— Isaiah Smotherman had an 11-yard TD run.
— Andre Owens added a 30-yard TD run.
— Jimmy Hamilton also had a 55-yard TD run.

— Casteel wins 56-7 FINAL
— Wyatt Jeffries got Empire on the board with a 5-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.

— SCV’s Raoul Perales opened the game with an 80-yard kickoff return for a TD.
— Alec Wyble-Meza scored on a 74-yard TD run to put SCV up 13-6
— SCV increased its lead to 21-6 after Titarro Jones scored on a 28-yard TD run.
— Perales had a 28-yard TD run to give SCV a 28-12 lead in the second quarter.
— Wyble-Meza increased SCV’s lead to 35-12 with a 9-yard TD run.
— Wyble-Meza hauled in a 34-yard TD pass to give SCV a 42-12 halftime lead.
— Wyble-Meza also had an interception in the game.

FRIDAY’s GAME:

— Thatcher wins 62-6 FINAL
— Tyler Roebuck scored on a 64-yard run to open the scoring for Thatcher
— Brock Jones had a 20-yard TD run and Bretton Dodge followed with a 35-yard running score.
— Shane Cook scored on a 27-yard run for Thatcher to open the lead to 28-0 early in the second quarter.
— The Eagles built their lead to 35-0 on a 30-yard TD pass from Jack Kortsen to Javan Montoya.
— Riley Morris with a 62-yard scoring run gave Thatcher a 42-0 lead in the second quarter.
— Kortsen also has a 45-yard TD run and Trevino Clark has run it in from four yards in the third quarter.
— McBride scored a TD run from the 1 to increase the lead.
— Thatcher advances to the quarterfinals next week to face the winner between No. 11 San Tan Foothills and No. 6 St. Johns, which will be played Saturday.
