Sunnyside’s Little League program continued its impressive showing with its Major, Junior and Senior all-star teams as the Seniors reached the West Regional winner’s bracket semifinals with Saturday night’s 13-8 win over So Cal at Sacramento, Calif.
The Seniors, representing Arizona in the tournament, will play Hawaii on Monday at 4 p.m. for the chance to move on to the winner’s bracket final.
The Sunnyside Juniors are in the state championship Sunday morning against Nogales at Sierra Vista.
The Sunnyside Majors advanced to the state championship Monday night at Kingman against either Red Mountain or Queen Creek.
In the Sunnyside Seniors’ win over So Cal on Saturday night, the team pounded out 19 hits.
Alonso Bacame was 4 for 4 with a triple, three runs and three RBIs. Leadoff batter Wyatt Stockam finished 3 for 5 with two runs and a double.
Martin Banuelos and Gabe Ortiz each went 3 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs. Cleanup hitter Gerardo Grijalva also went 2 for 4 with a run.
