Cienega QB Ryan Swoger Commits to South Dakota State

Cienega quarterback Ryan Swoger, one of 13 Class of 2021 college prospects with the Bobcats, has committed to attend Division I FCS school South Dakota State on a football scholarship.

Swoger, who might also be used as a returner on special teams, said he chose the Jackrabbits — who play in the Missouri Valley Conference — because of coach John Stiegelmeier and his staff.

“For me, it was the relationship the coaches and I built over these past months and they definitely have a vision for me,” Swoger said. “Also, I believe I can make an impact atn Brookings (S.D.). I have always wanted to be able to go out there and just be an athlete and they are giving me the opportunity to do so.”

The 6-foot-3 and 190-pound Swoger split time at quarterback last season at Cienega. He completed 40 passes in 72 attempts for 484 yards.

Swoger will be behind center when the Bobcats open their 2020 season Friday at CDO. It will be the season-opener for both schools.

Swoger is the sixth Southern Arizona player who has committed to a college

He is also one of 61 known Class of 2021 prospects locally who has been offered a scholarship, including 12 other Cienega players:
