Douglas beat Sierra Vista 10-0 in Nogales to claim the District 8 Majors championship and the team will join Marana and Sunnyside at the state tournament slated to start on July 16 in Litchfield Park.
The Rincon 9-11 softball team was eliminated in the state tournament held in Fountain Hills.

D-8 BASEBALL 10-12: NOGALES
Douglas 10, Sierra Vista 0 (Championship)
Chris Escarcega pitched a no-hitter, hit a two-run home run and had two run-scoring doubles for Douglas in its 10-0 win over Sierra Vista in the District 8 Majors championship.
Douglas advances to the state tournament that starts Saturday at Litchfield Park. Sunnyside (District 12) and Marana (District 5) have also qualified.
Esequiel Gonzales had an RBI single before Escarcega homered in the third inning to give Douglas a 3-0 lead over Sierra Vista.
Escarcega hit an RBI double in the fourth and Ivan Martinez followed with a two-run double, increasing Douglas’ lead to 7-0.
Escarcega’s two-run double was part of a three-run rally in the fifth that increased the lead to 10-0.
He faced 16 batters in the game, striking out 11 and walking three.
“The kid is a beast,” Douglas manager Oscar Encinas told Herald/Review media about Escarcega. “He puts the work in every day and does what it takes to get the job done.”
