The Rocky Mountain Vibes of the Pioneer Baseball League have agreed to terms with former Sunnyside and Pima College right-hander Adam Moraga.

He will attend the Vibes’ upcoming spring training camp at Colorado Springs, Colo., in May.

After graduating from Sunnyside in 2016, Moraga pitched at Pima and then the University of Sciences and Arts of Oklahoma.

Moraga was 7-4 with a 3.95 ERA in 73 innings in his second season with Pima in 2019. He had five complete games and struck out 65 with 29 walks. In 127 innings pitched in his two years with Pima, Moraga allowed only one home run.

He was 2-0 with a 2.16 ERA in two seasons at the University of Sciences and Arts of Oklahoma. He had 28 strikeouts and five walks in 25 innings. His fastball has been recorded into the 90s.

Moraga’s parents Selina Encinas and Omar Moraga were both standouts in softball and baseball at Sunnyside before playing in college — Encinas with Pima softball and Omar with Arizona baseball.

The Vibes’ season begins May 23.

The Pioneer Baseball League is an independent baseball league that operates in the Rocky Mountain region of the United States. Although its teams are not directly affiliated with Major League Baseball, it is designated as an MLB Partner League. That means doors can open to MLB opportunities for players.
