Sabino sophomore Avery Nielson followed her six-inning no-hitter against Coolidge on Tuesday with another such performance in five innings against Tanque Verde in a 3A quarterfinal game on Friday night at Amphi High School.

Nielson struck out 12 and walked one and did not allow a baserunner past first base in the 11-0 win over the Hawks.

No. 1 Sabino (28-3) will play in the semifinal round either No. 5 Page (24-4) or No. 13 Payson (19-10) on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Papago Sports Complex at Phoenix.

No. 9 Tanque Verde ends its season 16-10.

Sabino, which has outscored opponents 134-3 in its nine-game winning streak, was bolstered by five-run rallies in the first and third innings against the Hawks.

The McFarland twin sisters — Reese and Riley — contributed to Sabino’s 10-hit performance.

Reese was 2 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs. Riley went 1 for 3 with two runs and a run-scoring triple.

Leadoff batter Jesamin Aguilar finished 2 for 3 with a run and two RBIs.

Gianna Pancost was 2 for 3 with an RBI double and Alyssa Aguirre went 1 for 3 with a run and RBI.

Riley’s RBI triple, Reese’s three-run home run and Pancost’s RBI double were all part of Sabino’s five-run first inning.

Shyanne Duke, Aguirre and Aguilar each hit RBI singles to fuel the five runs scored in the third.

Reese’s RBI single with two outs in the fourth increased the lead to 11-0.
