OFFENSE

Will Ka'Deem Carey be a starter tonight against UNLV is one of the more interesting subplots

Will Ka’Deem Carey be a starter tonight against UNLV is one of the more interesting subplots

Changes in starters from NAU game: Ka’Deem Carey is listed as a starter ahead of Daniel Jenkins in the Arizona media-relations release, but reports out of Tucson suggest Jenkins will start ahead of Carey. That might be because of Jenkins’ performance against NAU, with Carey on the sidelines serving a one-game suspension for his offseason transgressions. Jenkins ran 12 times or 139 yard games, including a 91-yard burst in the second quarter that put the UA up 14-0. All other 10 starting spots remain the same.

Class breakdown of definite starters: Three seniors. Five juniors. One sophomore. One freshman.

Class breakdown of definite backups: One senior. One junior. Three sophomores. Four freshmen.

Game-time starter decisions: At the slot receiver position it will be either sophomore Johnny Jackson or freshman Nate Phillips. Jackson started last week against NAU and caught one pass for eight yards. At one wide receiver spot, it is between two freshman — Clive Georges or Samajie Grant. Georges started last week but did not catch a pass.

DEFENSE

UA freshman Scooby Wright had an impressive start to his career against NAU

UA freshman Scooby Wright had an impressive start to his career against NAU

Changes in starters from NAU game: All the starters are the same, although freshman Scooby Wright, who started at the strong-side linebacker spot last week, is listed as a possible starter there along with sophomore Keoni Bush-Loo. Wright should start again after finishing with six tackles last week, including one for lost yardage and a pass deflection that led to Tra’Mayne Bondurant’s interception return for a touchdown.

Class breakdown of definite starters: Five seniors. Five juniors. No sophomores. No freshmen.

Class breakdown of definite backups: One senior. One junior. Three sophomores. Two freshmen.

Game-time starter decisions: As mentioned before, the competition between Wright and Bush-Loo exists (at least according to the UA press release) and seniors Shaquille Richardson and Derrick Rainey are vying for the right cornerback spot. Richardson made his 25th career start last week, which ties defensive end Sione Tuihalamaka for the most on the defense.

Overall class breakdown of definite starters: Eight seniors. Ten juniors. One sophomore. One freshmen.

Overall class breakdown of definite backups: Two seniors. Two juniors. Six sophomores. Six freshmen.
