OFFENSE
Changes in starters from UTSA game:
Anthony Gimino of TucsonCitizen.com reported earlier this week that UA junior right tackle Fabbians Ebbele is questionable to play today at Washington because of an ankle injury. Ebbele, who along with left tackle Mickey Baucus have the most career starts (28) among the Wildcats, did not play in the last three quarters against Texas-San Antonio on Sept. 14.
If Ebbele does not start or play, his backup is sophomore Jacob Arzouman of Salpointe Catholic. Arzouman has never started a game for the Wildcats. T.D. Gross, a redshirt freshman from San Diego, was listed as Ebbele’s backup in the first three games. Gross is now listed as a backup at left tackle.
Another change in the pecking order: Eric Bender-Ramsey, a senior, is listed as a backup at left guard in place of junior Trent Spurgeon.
All of Arizona’s starters through the first three games are listed as probable starters against Washington.
Class breakdown of solely listed starters:
— Three seniors (wide receiver Terrence Miller, right guard Chris Putton and quarterback B.J. Denker).
— Five juniors (running back Ka’Deem Carey, slot receiver Garic Wharton, left tackle Mickey Baucus, center Steven Gurrola and Ebbele).
— One sophomore (left guard Cayman Bundage).
— One freshman (either Clive Georges or Samajie Grant at one receiver spot).Class breakdown of solely listed backups:
— Two seniors (running back Daniel Jenkins and left guard Eric Bender-Ramsey).
— One junior (slot Terris Jones-Grigsby).
— Two sophomores (right guard Lene Maiava and center Carter Wood).
— Three freshmen (quarterback Javelle Allen, Gross, and Grant or Georges at a wideout position).Game-time decisions: At the slot receiver position it will be either sophomore Johnny Jackson or freshman Nate Phillips. Georges or Grant will start at one wideout spot.
DEFENSE
Changes in starters from UTSA game: The Wildcats have started the same 11 in each of the first three games. The continuity has stabilized the defense. Rich Rodriguez shuffled his lineup 10 times out of 13 games in his first season with the Wildcats last year.
In terms of pecking order changes, senior Shaquille Richardson is solely listed as a starter at right cornerback. In the first three games, he was listed as a potential starter along with senior Derrick Rainey.
Class breakdown of solely listed starters:
— Five seniors (nose tackle Tevin Hood, end Sione Tuihalamaka, middle linebacker Jake Fischer, weak-side linebacker Marquis Flowers and Richardson at right cornerback).
— Five juniors (end Reggie Gilbert, spur safety Tra’Mayne Bondurant, bandit safety Jared Tevis, left cornerback Jonathan McKnight and free safety Jourdon Grandon).
— No sophomores.
— No freshmen.Class breakdown of solely listed backups:
— One senior (Rainey at right cornerback).
— One junior (middle linebacker Hank Hobson).
— Three sophomores (spur safety Anthony Lopez, bandit safety William Parks and free safety Jamar Allah).
— Two freshmen (either DeAndre’ Miller or Jake Matthews at weak-side linebacker and left cornerback Devin Holiday).Game-time decisions: The UA continues to list true freshman Scooby Wright vying for a starter spot at the strong-side linebacker with sophomore Keoni Bush-Loo although Wright has started all three games (and should continue that role against Washington). He is tied for the team lead in tackles with 19, including three for lost yardage.
Overall class breakdown of solely listed starters: Eight seniors. Ten juniors. One sophomore. One freshman.
Overall class breakdown of solely listed backups: Three seniors. Three juniors. Five sophomores. Five freshmen.
